This years race will be held on Sunday September 20, 2009 at High Noon
The Fish Box Derby Race is a family event that is held in early September. This was established by a non-profit organization - Fish Box Derby, Inc. whose purpose it is to provide the local youth with the opportunity to build and strengthen family relations. Boys and Girls from ages eight to fourteen are eligible to enter (there are no fees to enter). The young people work side by side with their parents, grandparents, guardians or neighbors to build their own car and participate in the race. The cars reflect each individual style and mechanical abilities.
The cars are entered into one of two categories: "Freestyle" or "Modified". Prize categories include the traditional First, Second, Third, Fourth, Best Pit Crew and Koolest Car. In the past, First Place winners have won a mountain bike from Harbor Side Cycle, Second Place winners have won a six month family membership to the YMCA, Third Place winners have won a wrist watch from W.E Blanchard-Jeweler and Fourth Place winners have won whale watch tickets from Seven Seas Whale Watch. Many other great prizes donated by local merchants are awarded.
Donations made to the Fish Box Derby Race help to cover all race related expenses. The balance is placed in a scholarship fund for the young participants. Each participant is eligible to apply for scholarship funds as she or he prepares to graduate from High School. All drivers and their cars must be presented for pre-race inspection between the hours of 9:00 AM and Noon on Sunday, August 30, 2009. Cars that are not presented for inspection or do not pass inspection will not be allowed to race. Inspections will be held at C. B. Fisk, Inc. 21 Kondelin Road, Cape Ann Industrial Park, Gloucester, Massachusetts. There will be no last minute entries the day of the race. NO EXCEPTIONS.

TO VIEW RACE RESULTS FROM PREVIOUS YEARS YOU WILL NEED 
Every year for the past sixteen years, the Fish Box Derby has offered the kids of Cape Ann the opportunity to test their design, building and driving skills in a safe and exciting race down Rogers Street. We have purposely stayed independent from the All - American Soapbox Derby so that parents and kids could work together on the cars and the everything from buggy wheels to high tech bearings are allowed. There is no entry fee the race, we are fully supported by charitable donations from individuals, businesses and local organizations, whose names are emblazoned on the hay bales that line the course. Through the generosity of our supporters, the Fish Box Derby now offers two $1000.00 college scholarships each year, for which all racers are eligible.
